FAQs

What is an F1 Goldendoodle?

A F1 Goldendoodle is a cross between a purebred miniature poodle and a purebred golden retriever. An F1b Goldendoodle is born when a Goldendoodle is crossed back to a poodle.  Because F1b Goldendoodles are a larger percentage poodle than F1 golden doodles they have may have a more curly coat.

What is the difference between a Mini, Moyen (medium), and Standard Goldendoodle?

The Miniature Goldendoodle is the result of a Miniature or Toy Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever. These dogs tend to range in size from 13 to 20 inches in height and 15 to 35 pounds in weight.

The average height for a Moyen (medium) Goldendoodle is 17 to 20 inches; the weight is 35 to 50 pounds.

The Large Standard Goldendoodle averages 20 to 24 inches in height and weighs 50 to 90 pounds.

Sometimes hybrid puppies can even be larger than either of their parents. With that being said, most of the puppies will fall within the specified weight range.

How often do you have puppies?

Bella has one litter approximately every 6-8 months.   Occasionally we will skip a breeding to accommodate our family schedule or if we feel it is best for our girl to take a break.  It is very healthy for female dogs to breed “back to back” litters.  Many feel this is better for them than skipping a breeding.

What is included with a puppy?

Before going home, each puppy will be checked by a veterinarian and receive it’s first set of vaccinations and dewormings.

What should we buy to prepare for our new puppy?

The arrival of a new puppy is an exciting event, and you’re likely itching to do some preparatory shopping.  This puppy shopping list provides you with a checklist of recommended items as well as helpful suggestions such as crate dimensions and collar size.

When do puppies go to their new homes?

Puppies are ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks old. We will contact you to set up a day & time for you to come to our home and pick up your new bundle of fur.

Can we contact you with questions after the puppy is purchased?

Of course! We love to stay in contact with puppy owners. Please contact us with questions at any time and keep us updated about the fun times you have with your Goldendoodle.

Is there a book about puppy rearing that you recommend?

Yes! Zak George’s Dog Training Revolution: The Complete Guide to Raising the Perfect Pet with LoveThis book covers stages of puppy development, puppy training, housebreaking, crate training, etc. I think you’ll also find that it will serve as a handy reference.

Zack also has a free video series of bringing a new puppy home, helping it adjust, and training it. Here’s the first episode.

A member of our family has pet allergies or asthma. Which generation of Goldendoodle is best for us?

F1  Goldendoodles are a good choice for people with allergies or asthma.  However, if allergies or asthma is a significant concern, you may want to choose an F1b Goldendoodle as they are a higher percentage poodle than an F1, making their coat more hypoallergenic, like a poodle’s.

What is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Test?

Our sweet Bella (mom) earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) titles at only 5 months old! The CGC is the first step in obedience training and passing shows that your dogs exhibit basic manners. It also qualifies us to take her on therapy visits with the Cincinnati chapter of Canines for Christ.

The AKC CGC test consists of 10 parts:

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger
  2. Sitting politely for petting
  3. Allowing gentle grooming
  4. Walking on a loose leash
  5. Walking nicely through a crowd
  6. Sitting, downing & staying on command
  7. Coming when called (10’)
  8. Walk politely past another dog
  9. Reaction to distraction & loud noise
  10. Supervised separation (handler out of sight for 3 minutes)
